Okay, we're still 69 years behind "The Melody Maker", but you won't find any "bis" lurking in our pages.

Thanks to everyone who has written in. Please continue to do so. Just write in with any suggestions or queries that you may have.

What do you think of the new style cover?

Thanks again,

Best wishes,

Steve & Donna.

WENDY - BACK FOR GOOD

I, Along with many others, look forward to the day when WENDY'S new single is released, and she steps back into the spotlight, to ignite the charts once again. For now though, WENDY is patient to find a record deal with her own terms, and she has to be respected for this. I am surre it will not be long before she is offered a worthy recording contract because she has star quality written all over her, and is way ahead of the rest.

What you get with WENDY is the combination of an amazing voice, stunning looks and a cool attitude to life.

I believe WENDY has the best female vocals in music. Although WENDY herself admires the likes of ANNIE LENNOX and CHRISSIE HYDE, her own singing style is much more exciting. You could never accuse WENDY of sounding 'samey', just as you can never predict what is coming next in her musical sound. She has the talent to walk away with next years Best Female Solo Brit award, and let's hope she does.

WENDY lights up the stage when she is performingand is unrivalled in her good looks ---- she is stunning.

Finally, WENDY'S honest, straight-forward, no messing attitude has won her thousands of fans and has seen her through the highs and lows of her career to date. Her dtermination is inspiring, and it is this which will take her back to the top in 1996 --- although in my opinion she never left.

CARDIFF - 15/10/88

It was October 15th on the first 'POP ART' Tour at Cardiff University. It was completely jam-packed, but after much elbowing and pushing I managed to get to within one row of the front.

The lights went down and there she was. The band blasted straight into 'I WANT YOUR LOVE', and it was non-stop from there.

WENDY looked simply stunning, radiating that air total control that she always does. There was such a crush that I nearly passed out, and had to fight my way to the back for some air!

I can't remember the set list now (does anyone else?), but I remember that 'TRAH CITY' and 'PSYCHOSONIC CINDY' were highlights.

WENDY ended with 'I WANT YOUR LOVE' again, and to a huge roar, left the stage. It was a magical, power-packed, exciting night. One I will never forget.

I saw the band twice more in later years (I'll tell you about that another day), and look forward to the day when I see WENDY again.

Beauty, intelligence and honesty is rare in anyone. In WENDY we are lucky to have them all.

WENDY - AN OPINION

With the predictable, but disappointing rejection of WENDY'S second solo album material, it seems that we have been deprived of hearing her again. Although ONE LITTLE INDIAN used to be a small independant label, they have now a formidable cast of recording artists with THE SHAMEN and BJORK. They now want to expand and consolidatee their position as a major player in the Big Boys League. Thus taking a risk in someone like WENDY is not going to appeal to them, unlike a few years ago. I personally wish that this 'WISH YOU WERE HERE' thing had gone through. It would have put WENDY back in the public spotlight, reminded all of her old fans that she has not diappeared off the face of the Earth, which she has done in recording terms since 1993. A program with ten million viewers or so is not a bad platform to re-launch a career is it? It worked for ABBA in 1974! Anyway, that is all in the past, but WENDY is going to need a similar plateau to resume her rightful place at the top if she is going to realize her dream of being the major female star of the 21st century. The charts at the moment, CELINE DION'S four week croon aside, are all dominated by male acts, with the normal female sex symbols now being the supermodels and teen actresses instead of the singers. With this in mind maybe a WENDY endeavour into television first may not be such a bad idea after all. Anything to hear that voice, those eyes, that body, and of course the smile that has descended straight from HELEN OF TROY, in lauching a thousand ships!

AND GOD CREATED WENDY...

It doesn't matter who you are, what you look like, or even what you sound like, you'll always be compared to another act. For example, in the short time Oasis have been around, how many times have they been compared to The Beatles?

WENDY was no exception to this, back in the late 80's when Transvision Vamp first came to the atention of the record buying public, comparisons were enevitably going to be made.

Monroe, Bardot, Madonna were just a few of the stars WENDY was likened to for her looks, and lyrically Chrissie Hynde and Patti Smith. To me WENDY reminded me if Alexandra Bastedo from the 'Champions', but that's probably more to do with me being a 'sixties' kid that anything.

Debbie Harry, or rather Deborah as she likes to be known as these days, was probably the most obvious comparison, but why?

Basically both were blonde, both fronted a male band, and yes they were very stunning, but I think that's where the similarities end.

As a teenage schoolboy fed on Rod Stewart (he was good once - just listen to the Black Crowes !), I was pleasantly awakened by Ms. Harry, but was stunned by her inability to perform interviews.

WENDY, however controversial as the media made her out to be, always gave a good interview, kept the viewers interested, and knew her own mind. WENDY always spoke coherently on many a varied subject. WENDY had influences, but how many of today's acts would be where they are today without WENDY JAMES?? What will they do when WENDY returns?

WENDY did a lot more for women in the music world than she gets credited for, leading the way for such bands as Sleeper and Garbage.

There is only one WENDY JAMES, and there will always be only one.

"GOBSMACKED"

I fell in love with WENDY the first time I saw the video for 'I WANT YOUR LOVE', and I thought what a woman, a view that has never changed even though she is not currently in the limelight. I even joined the TVV fan club, only the second one ever for me. If I told you that the first one was for MARY HOPKINS you might guess I am forty something and should know better, but who cares? Music appeal has no age limits and WENDY is still number one.

I subsequently saw WENDY at the Hammersmith (Odeon) Apollo and had the time of my life, much to the amusement of some much younger TVV fans who could hardly believe their eyes as I went into pogo mode, and they couldn't keep up! I was very hoarse from shouting out the lyrics to all the songs.

I collect vinyl records and often went to London hunting for bargains, and on one memorable occasion was admiring some silver rings at a market stall, when this other person stood shoulder to shoulder with me doing likewise, and made their selection. It was only when money changed hands that I glanced around and realized it was WENDY! To this day I still kick myself for not at least saying hello, but I was totally gobsmacked! I have since seen her several times, but never approached her --- perhaps I will one day.

Anyway, cheers for now, and just to amend slightly the song 'BABY I DON'T CARE', remember WENDY, BABY WE DO CARE very, very much.

With love and best wishes to VAMP fans wherever you are.

AND SHE WAS GIVEN WENDY AS A NAME

Born in the usual way
Loved rock 'n' roll to this day
Took a dose of a certain Monroe
Then some Elvis and more to go
Her eyes had a certain stare
It said "soon I'll be up there
with all the stars
might even meet Ziggy and the spiders from Mars"
Used evolution as her way of change
And she was given Wendy as her name.

Never felt right at school
Felt like a bit of a fool
Not exactly uncool
But none the less she knew
She had to turn the page
To settle a taste for stage
So that's exactly what she did
For a Mars Bar, can of coke and a few quid
Money wasn't quite sky high
But enough for her first Levi's
Leaving school with orange hair
And a tongue swearing "I DON'T CARE!"
Knowing things wouldn't stay the same
And she was given Wendy as a name.

Then in the local with
The music of Patti Smith
She was caught by the eye
Of a certain admirin' guy
Who later said his name was Nick
Who wanted to change her life quick
So with a guy called N.C. Sayer
She changed her voice, layer by layer

He wanted it ripped to shreds
Wrote some songs which she was fed
And she sang 'em raw
'Cos that's what rock 'n' roll's for
Now things could never be the same
And she was given Wendy as a name.

Finding contracts with hope in mind
Praying for what they search is what they find
Then they met a guy called Tex
Who makes his mark with an X
Graffiti can in his mind
Hears the name of a certain band
When the couple ask "Would you write our name?"
He said, "I'll play the drums if it's all the same"
The three feeling life's a rave
Meet up with their mate Dave
And the name for the stars to be
When shortened reads T.V.V.
With the woman getting the most attention
of recognition that is sent them
As she won't take talk so lame
And she was given Wendy as a name.

Perhaps a girl born to be bad
Cuts her hair the boss goes mad
Finishes video hair short/long
Spells Revolution in the song
In the charts, reach mid seventies
Not a shadow of what they should be
In awhile reach number 5
Demanding love to feel alive
At first the 'bombshell' is loved
'Til she tells scum to get stuffed
Makes foes in journalists
Who don't have to lie. But they insist
Don't like who she is as such
(You can look , but don't much as touch)
With 5 going to 4
With Pol coming rumours were sore
Though the band members lessened, lies did not
Hoped by '89 the world would've forgot
The girl who knew their game
And she was given Wendy as her name.

In '89 she was quite huge
Though respect was refused
By certain you know who's
Still making fives out of twos and twos
On the cover of most magazines
The cause of many wet dreams
The tours went with a flash
There were 4 & 2 (Mallet and Jazz)
Chasing chart position number 3
With their song that happens to be
Their biggest hit to date
Which many still appreciate
Yes their song of not having a care
They made their mark, yes they were there!
She disappeared when the end of '89 came
But many remembered
She was given Wendy as her name.

Came '91, what went wrong?
No more band after just two songs
Not much more in a solo '93
Down to lack of publicity
But everyone knew all the same
She was given Wendy as her name.

If you thought a comeback would be never
That she couldn't stand forever
Those thoughts will soon pass
She's about to kick some ass
And you'll remember her given name
Yes you'll remember Wendy James.

LE PALACE - PARIS - 7/10/89
TRANSVISION VAMP...SATURDAY 7th OCTOBER 1989

"Le Palace" in Paris was full of people this night, I must admit mainly boys, the girls being rather rare.

At about 9, the lights faded out and the audience began to get excited and screamed too. The three male members of TRANSVISION VAMP and two other musicians took to the stage and quickly the first notes of "TRASH CITY" began to fill the place. Then WENDY JAMES, the blonde female of the band, entered the place and I witnessed a real and great applause. "TRASH CITY, HERE I AM..." and so on and on. From then on WENDY was my baby, my vamp, my queen... she was beautiful this night in her black trousers and blazer when "SEX KICK" started. She moved slowly all over the stage, even though there was a large fan to cool her down, in the middle of it. The band played most of "POP ART" and "VELVETEEN", the sweet "REVOLUTION BABY", the trashy "BABY I DON'T CARE"....NICK CHRISTIAN SAYER was often behind WENDY and both made a sexy pair. TEX AXILE on keyboards was very funny. I guess the song I preferred this night was "KISS THEIR SONS". It was this song that made the venue explode.

I must admit I fell in love with this band this night and mostly with WENDY JAMES. I always found her beautiful on TV and in photos but this night I thought that she had something special. She quickly became as great as TRACY TRACY from the PRIMITIVES who I already loved but also the heroines that remain deep in my heart are KATE BUSH, BELINDA CARLISLE, CINDY LAUPER, CRISSIE HYNDE, SUSANNA HOFFS, DEBBIE HARRY, PAT BENATAR, and STEVIE NICKS. A very new name on my list, but what a name! It was the only show of TRANSVISION VAMP I ever saw but it was a memorable one. A memorable one. A memory that will stay in my mind forever.

WELCOME TO THE WENDY HOUSE

Welcome to the birthday issue of the WENDY HOUSE. Like all birthdays a celebration is called for.

Excuses, Excuses.....

Anyway, feeling just a little jaded is Donna with her favorite tracks. Come on Donna lay it on us.....

1*REVOLUTION BABY Loved this from the first time I saw the video on the Chart Show. A true Goddess, given the chances I would have done the same. Hooked and in love!
2*DOWN ON YOU If you've ever truly been in love this song is for you. Played live only 'SEX KICK' could touch it.
3*KISS THEIR SONS A song of epic proportions. Again live the act became real. A crowd pleaser..loved it every time.
4*SEX KICK The greatest live song ever. This is a timeless anthem that still sounds great today. Only WENDY could dominate the stage and enthrall the crowd with such authority.
5*ONLY A FOOL A really sexy song. Again should have been a single or at least on the album. More than a match to Costello's lyrics.
6*AINT NO RULES Another good song live. Decadent and brilliant.
7*I WANT TO STAND FOREVER The indomitable spirit of WENDY easily surpasses Costello's lyrics.
8*FILL IN THE BLANKS After years of negative vibes from the Press, this song puts everything into perspective.
9*TWANGY WIGOUT Chill out zone. A definite hit. Should have been released.
10*IF LOOKS COULD KILL Opening number on their tour. Got pushed to the floor!!
11*CRAWL OUT YOUR WINDOW Dylanesque but very '90's. Proving WENDY CAN sing a varied repertoire.
12*THE NAMELESS ONE Clubby. Fab video. Excellent solo debut.
13*TO ALL THE BEGINNERS Marianne Faithful feel to this track. With all the angst.
14*HONEY HONEY Unknown to anyone but myself this track reminds me of my rebellious youth that could have been wilder!!
15 * YOU PUT A SPELL I remember this song vividly especially, on 20th June 1991 at Portsmouth G/Hall when some big biker decided to use my leg as a urinal!!!!!!!!!!!
16 * (I JUST WANNA) B WITH U Seeing WENDY and the boys perform this on Aspel was brilliant. I admired WENDY'S strength of character for not swinging at Maureen (nice slacks) Lipman!! Nice one WENDY!
17*VELVETEEN Stands apart from the disco chart music of 1989. A welcome relief from S.A.W. This song showed the bands heavier less commercial side. Showed a strong JAMES/SAYER interest in film scores.
I know my list is rather lengthy but I have tried to wittle it down. As the tracks I have chosen all have a special significance to me.

Well, Donna you seemed to manage that okay. Thank you very much.

GOODNIGHT!!!!!!

NEWS ::: NEWS ::: NEWS :::

You may be excused for thinking that it's all done quiet on the 'WENDY' front. But it has been everything but....

After recording demos in New York. WENDY has been busy doing the rounds of Record Companies, trying to secure a deal that will help regain her status as one of the best, if not 'the' best (female) performer of our time.

We all know how, as fans, we get angry seeing all these third rate acts doing well. Thinking WEWENDY NDY can do better than that!!!

All WENDY wants is to get her music out to her fans, and perform live. These have been frustrating times for everyone.

There are few labels interested at the moment. If nothing comes of this, WENDY, determined as ever, will more than likely resort to releasing her material herself and plugging it through the INTERNET, W.O.W., and other such outlets. At the end of the day, WENDY will shine through!

We will of course keep you updated with any release details. WORLD OF WENDY will be going on-line in the very, very near future.

Believe and it will happen.
